SUMMARY:Exile Talks: Same Label\, Different Experience
DESCRIPTION:Email this Page \n	\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat does it mean to share the label “exile”\, while facing very different opportunities and barriers\, both largely depending on your country of origin? \n\n\n\nThis edition of “Exile Talks” explores the different layers of realities of exile in Germany. The discussion focuses on the challenges exiled journalists and human rights defenders encounter when navigating the German migration system and interacting with German human rights organisations and the media landscape. We will examine how social inequalities\, structural racism\, and other discriminatory policies shape access to society\, covering topics such as visas\, work permits\, employment\, cooperation opportunities\, institutional support and protection from transnational repression.

SUMMARY:Exile Talks: Sudan
DESCRIPTION:Email this Page \n	\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nThis edition of Exile Talks asks what is missing from the way Sudan is discussed – and how we can better understand the conflict beyond simplified narratives of „civil war“. \n\n\n\nBringing together a Sudanese human rights activist and an exiled journalist\, the conversation will examine both the humanitarian situation and the challenges of reporting on the conflict. We will discuss the conflict dynamics\, the role of Sudanese civil society and the diaspora\, the involvement of international actors\, and how activists and journalists continue their work from exile.

Topics include press freedom and media censorship\, reporting on the conflict in the Tigray region and other ongoing crises\, the authoritarian developments in Ethiopia under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
